Invite your students to join the Climate Change Connection Youth Video Challenge
Are you looking for a meaningful project that brings climate learning to life in your classroom? The Climate Change Connection Youth Video Challenge, presented in partnership with Climate Change Connection, CBC Manitoba, and Generation E, invites students in grades 5 to 12 to create a 90-second video about what climate change means to them.
Bring climate learning to life in your classroom
This province-wide challenge offers teachers a ready-made, curriculum-aligned project that brings climate learning to life. It strengthens core competencies like inquiry, communication, collaboration, and digital storytelling while fitting naturally into science, social studies, and ELA. The challenge helps educators connect classroom learning to local sustainability issues and gives students an authentic audience for their work. It also adds relevance and purpose to climate lessons, making it easier for teachers to support meaningful, action-focused learning without creating a major project from scratch.
Empower students to share their voice
For students, the challenge transforms climate learning into something personal, creative, and empowering. It gives them a platform to explore real-world issues, share their perspectives, and see how their ideas can influence their school and community. Many young people feel overwhelmed by climate change; this project helps shift them from worry to action by encouraging them to imagine solutions and a hopeful future. Through storytelling and problem solving, students build confidence, strengthen critical thinking skills, and discover that their voices matter.
About the challenge
Students can work on their own or in small teams to create a short video that shows why climate change matters and what they're doing about it. Encourage students to make their videos personal and purposeful. They can highlight local solutions, share personal experiences, or imagine a hopeful future for a climate-conscious Manitoba.
Here are some things we're looking for:
- Personal perspectives that show how climate change affects students and their communities
- Creative, local ideas that highlight inspiring actions and solutions
- Strong storytelling that engages and connects with viewers
- Clear sound and visuals that are easy to follow
